We ascribe the success of this project to McBride and his creative staff... Richard Bosch, project manager

The University Park Community Center, originally designed by Pietro Belluschi, is located in North Portland.  The aging facility has a long and rich history dating back to service as a community center for WW II shipyard workers and as the government center for Vanport after the 1948 flood destroyed that community.

Portland Parks and Recreation assembled a team of two architects and engineers to transform the existing building and add a new gymnasium.

The gymnasium serves both the community center and a new grade school across the pedestrian campus.

The building now houses various Parks and Recreation programs, Loaves and Fishes, a fitness center, teen center, dance studio, auditorium/community hall, meeting rooms along with a new double court gymnasium.

The project was dedicated in 2007.
