McBride Architecture was hired by Providence Health and Services (PHS) to replace the failing mechanical floor waterproofing at St. Vincent Medical Center.  After reviewing the existing conditions with the MEP Engineer, Glumac, it was determined that the original 1968 mechanical unit installation made it virtually impossible to replace the floating concrete floor and waterproofing without removing the equipment.

As the equipment was also at the end of its functional life, PHS opted to replace all of the mechanical/electrical equipment and the floor system simultaneously.  The M Level was redesigned with fewer, larger air handling units and consolidated functions which allow for better access and more efficient maintenance.  KPFF provided the structural analysis and engineering for the new design.
